Three students played in the viola master class given by Katrin Talbot during Festival '99. Thayer Piano Company provided the venue for this event.

Parry, Sarah and Howard
Sarah Mordan-McCombs, student of Honolulu Symphony cellist Louise Ching, played the first movement of the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto for a master class during Festival '99. Parry Karp (left) taught the class and Howard Karp accompanied on the piano. Thanks to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, classes were taught in the Academy Theatre, and students were able to get a feel for a performance setting.

2008 Education Programs

The master classes will provide valuable opportunities for Hawaii's students to perform for and receive individual guidance from the Festival artists, in a forum where other students, teachers, and the general public can learn through observation. String workshops in the schools will offer students some new perspectives on approaching their instruments. A special chamber music soirée will provide students with an opportunity to play for the sheer joy of it in an informal setting, expanding their knowledge and appreciation of the vast chamber music repertoire. Additionally, students will experience playing side-by-side with professionals.
